The floor tasted like old socks properly chewed up by at least two dogs.

At first, he had stared in awe, followed by growing panic, just before the baseball smacked his forehead dead center.

Great description of the taste! Old socks is a distinct flavor for sure. I wasn't really sure who the 'he' was supposed to be, or why he got hit by a baseball bat. Maybe a word to give a hint at the context would help, like "the owner" if he's the dogs' owner, or "the burglar" or whatever.
I love "properly chewed" and how that gives a hint of the dogs' size and strength!
